About Arlington
Arlington is a community located in Duval County, Florida. It is a blend of old and new. Duval County was founded in 1822 and named after William Pope Duval first territorial governor of Florida. It is a peninsula with high bluffs surrounding it, winds off the water and a multitude of trees for shade. Arlington was annexed in 1968 as part of Jacksonville, Florida. Some of Florida?s best environmental and historic landmarks are in this area. The first French colony in North America was established here in 1562 at Ft. Caroline. There is a national monument to commemorate that.
It was important to have access to the waterways so that is where it developed. The Arlington area is surprisingly well developed and new growth and expansion are happening. They even have a ferry from Arlington to downtown Jacksonville. The end where the ferry board is actually more developed than the rest of the peninsula. It is known as the area of Old Arlington. Mill Creek Road is considered the eastern edge of Old Arlington.
Then there is Arlington East. There are many multi-family projects including Harbour Town, Mira Vista, and Waters Edge. The beaches are great and include May port, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach and Jacksonville Beach. The fun part is that they all form one long coastal city. This area has fun, lively pubs and restaurants. It attracts homebuyers with money to spend who want a laid-back atmosphere with upscale living and oceanfront views and properties. Arlington is a place with something old and something new. What a great place to visit!
